Sailor Barney Sr. ("SB") was from Brooklyn, New York.
It was there that he learned how to tattoo along-side the "greats"

He spent most of his life tattooing. It's been said, at one time, Sailor Barney Sr. was the most profitable tattoo artist in the country.

Throughout his career he sat down in many shops across the USA and traveled with the carnival circuit.
He was the President of the East Coast Tattoo Club of America and was the creator of the Coastal Tattoo Machine.

He drew flash any time he could. The first three volumes contain a full set of flash he drew during Out 1980's while working in his son's shop, Sailor Fred's Golden Needle Tattoo Studio, in Rochester, NY.

The flash in this book was intentionally left "Uncolored". Before there were color copy machines artists sold flash like these sets.

Sailor Barney Sr. drew one last set of flash before passing away although it's wearabouts were unknown until 2023. When his son, Sailor Fred reclaimed it.
